Multiple layers of lush oil paint meld together in the richly textured palette knife paintings of Kansas Colorist Debra Clemente. However, the individual colors remain amazingly fresh and pure. A Clemente painting commands a dramatic impressionistic presence across a room and upon intimate viewing, delights the eye with clear evidence of her energy and passion in an almost abstract form.
Always a Kansas girl, Debra was born in Ottawa, Kansas in 1959 and moved with her family to Wichita at the age of six. Young Debra had the fortune of studying drawing and painting with Wilma Wethington, AWS as a teenager. At 18 moved upstate to Lawrence and earned a degree in Visual Communications from Kansas University. In 1981 Debra married David Clemente of Arkansas City and they began a homebuilding and develping business in Lawrence, David Clemente Construction. Twenty five years they continue to build homes and develop in Lawrence, own Stone Creek, www.stonecreekmenu.com a Lawrence restauant where Debra's artwork fills the walls. David and Debra have two teenage children Amanda and Dominic.
